Wood veneer
A wood veneer is a product with all the known characteristics of a natural product. No veneer table leaf, no matter how expertly cut or treated, is identical to another. When selecting separate veneer leaves for tables, Leolux endeavours to make the best selection out of the available raw materials. Slight deviations are unavoidable, but that is the charm of a natural wood product.
Finishing and maintenance
- The Leolux veneers come in various shades, which can all be finished with a variety of lacquers. The characteristics of this lacquer are identical to the other Leolux lacquers.
- Maintenance only consists of normal cleaning with a damp cloth and mild detergents.
- Do not use any scouring products.
- After delivery, this Leolux product needs two months in which to harden through and through. Do not overload the table during that period.
Note
- Wood changes colour under the influence of direct daylight. Thus cherry wood becomes redder and oak yellower.
- Plastic protective feet which are, for example, underneath electric equipment can sometimes cause stains in mat-natural lacquer. These stains cannot be removed. Felt is therefore advised to protect your table against scratches.
Solid wood
A solid wood table is a natural product. It differs from a veneered table, which has only a thin layer of wood bonded to the top of an MDF panel. A "solid" tabletop or its legs are not necessarily made from one piece of wood, as wood "works". Humidity causes the wood to shrink or expand. A table made from one piece of wood would warp. To avoid warping, the tabletop is constructed from slats of wood that are glued on all sides. This limits the shrinkage and expansion of the wood. The table legs are also constructed from more than one piece of wood for the same reason. With use you must be aware that solid wood "works". Never place your solid wood table too close to a fire or radiator to avoid changes in temperature and humidity (approx. 60% is ideal).
Solid wood is oiled or lacquered. For maintenance of lacquered tables, please refer to the chapter on Leolux lacquers and veneer types.
Maintenance of oiled wood
- The oil used for oiling wood, cleans and protects the wood and accentuates its grain. However, your table is more vulnerable to stains. Always immediately remove any spilt fluids.
- daily care, wipe the table with a dry or damp cloth. Regularly treat the table with the oil supplied or, with a good quality teak oil. Using a cloth apply a thin layer of oil onto a clean, dry table. Rub with a dry cloth.
- ot use any caustic or abrasive cleaning agents.
- t scratches and stains can be treated by rubbing with a scouring sponge gently in the direction of the grain. Follow this by applying oil.
- ntenance set is available for solid wood and is also available via the Leolux dealer and Leolux-Design-Center.
Please note
Do not place any warm objects (pans) straight onto the wood. Rings will appear which cannot then be removed. |
