Carpets

Good maintenance is essential if you wish to enjoy your carpet for a long time. Regular vacuuming, roughly twice a week, can ensure a long life for your carpet. Vacuuming is necessary to remove dust and dirt as well as to raise flattened pile. It is advisable to vacuum both across and along the carpet. When purchasing a vacuum cleaner, ensure that it has extra air filters behind the vacuum cleaner bag. These filter the fine dust particles that pass through the dust bag. Ensure that these extra filters are changed regularly. We advise the use of a vacuum cleaner with rotating brushes since these give a superior deep clean.

For carpets with a high pile (32, 45 or 60 mm), it is necessary to brush the most frequently walked upon places every other month. Using the brush provided with a high pile carpet comb the yarns up from the pile bed. This returns the carpet to its original state and improves the appearance as well as lengthening the life of the carpet.

Quick treatment of spots is essential for their removal.

The earlier the spot is treated the better the result. Dab the spot as quickly as possible with tissue/kitchen paper, or preferably with a fast absorbing shammy block (e.g. Starclean). Scoop up with a spoon any solid materials. Dab and never rub the spot, this would only make it larger and possibly damage the carpet fibres, which would remain visible, even when the spot is removed. Work only from the outside inwards from the spot edges to avoid enlarging it. Do not wet the carpet too much and do not use detergents; their composition is not intended for carpet cleaning. In some cases they can even damage the carpet. We advise that the wet spot should not be walked on for the first 24 hours. When the spot has disappeared, treat the area with James cleaning agent (available from Leolux-Design Centers).

Shoes carry dirt onto the carpet. This eventually becomes visible on areas frequently walked upon. It is advisable therefore to clean the carpet by a dry cleaning method in which a cleaning powder is brushed onto the carpet and then vacuumed up using a brush vacuum cleaner (e.g. SEBO method) to remove the dirt. Wet cleaning based on spray extraction is not recommended for our products.
